Samantha + Andrew | The Woodlands at Five Gables

As a Chattanooga wedding photographer, there are some wedding venues that photograph beautifully, and then there are venues that seem to give you something completely different around every corner. Howe Farms is one of those places. Samantha and Andrew’s wedding at The Woodlands at Five Gables was a perfect example of why we love photographing weddings here. From the bright, natural-light-filled bridal suite to the landscaped gardens, wooded Tennessee scenery, elegant reception space, and an unforgettable sparkler exit, their day gave us so many opportunities to photograph both the big moments and the little ones in between.

As wedding photographers, one of our favorite things about The Woodlands is that the property never makes you feel like you are taking the same photograph over and over again. You can move from clean, bright architectural portraits indoors to lush garden portraits outside, then into the warm reception space later in the evening. Samantha and Andrew’s gallery really shows just how much variety you can get without ever having to leave the property.

Getting Ready | The Bridal Suite

Samantha's wedding morning began in one of our favorite places to photograph at The Woodlands: the bridal suite.

The space has large windows, bright white walls, dark window frames, and plenty of natural light. For a photographer, that combination is a dream. It allows the getting-ready portion of the day to feel clean, bright, and editorial without needing to rely heavily on artificial lighting.

Rather than photographing only the traditional makeup moments, we were able to capture the little pieces that make the morning feel like uniquely her wedding day — her dress, accessories, bouquet, veil, and loved ones helping her get ready.

One of the sweetest details was the flower girl. She was dressed in an adorable white dress with delicate detailing and matching white shoes, and she quickly became one of those little characters who adds so much personality to a wedding gallery.

Samantha had plenty of beautiful moments happening around her as she prepared for the day, including having her veil placed and getting those final touches in place.

Her mother played an especially sweet role in helping her get ready, including helping with her veil. Those photographs are exactly why we encourage couples to leave room for these moments.

Samantha’s portraits against the old wooden doors are some of our favorite examples of how this venue can create completely different looks within the same property. The weathered wood and darker tones give the photographs a rustic, almost vintage feeling, while her white dress pops beautifully against the background. The large windows allow the room to stay bright and airy, while the surrounding scenery becomes a soft backdrop through the glass. This lighting contrasts the warm, dramatic reception photographs later in the evening.

The Little Details That Tell the Story at The Woodlands at Five Gables Venue

Samantha and Andrew's wedding had plenty of classic white-and-green details, and those details photographed beautifully against the warm tones throughout The Woodlands.

The bridal accessories included floral pieces featuring white roses and greenery with subtle gold accents. Instead of photographing every detail in isolation, we like to look for ways to photograph the details as part of the overall story.

These small elements help connect the beginning of the day with the finished wedding.

Later, those same white flowers and greenery appeared throughout the reception space, including the fireplace area. The floral design worked particularly well with the architecture of The Woodlands, where the neutral walls, warm wood, greenery, and dark metal accents give you a naturally elegant backdrop.

Bridal Portraits

Once Samantha was completely ready, we had the opportunity to photograph her bridal portraits inside the venue.

Her lace wedding gown photographed beautifully in the bright interior. The dress has a soft, romantic silhouette with layers of lace and tulle, and the long veil added even more movement.

One of our favorite bridal portraits from the day is the full-length image of Samantha standing in front of the large windows. The architecture frames her naturally while the greenery outside adds just enough color behind her.

This is one of the reasons we love photographing weddings at venues with great natural light: the background doesn't have to compete with the bride. Instead, the architecture and scenery become part of the portrait.

More Than a Barn Venue

When couples first hear the name The Woodlands, they might picture a traditional rustic barn venue.

But Samantha and Andrew's wedding is a great example of why we don't think that description tells the whole story.

The property has a much more elegant architectural feel than a typical barn venue. There are large arched openings, dark-framed windows, exposed wood beams, chandeliers, draped fabric, ornate ironwork, and an impressive staircase and balcony area all contrasted by white, making the venue feel very modern rather than rustic.

Outside, the look changes again.

The property includes landscaped gardens, stone and gravel paths, mature trees, greenery, and architectural elements like stucco walls and gates. The surrounding rolling hills provide a completely different backdrop from the interior of the reception space.

For couples who want a wedding venue where they can get garden, architectural, and wooded outdoor portraits all in one location. As photographers, that variety is something we really appreciate and it definitely makes a difference in your final gallery.

Garden Portraits

After Samantha and Andrew were ready, we took advantage of the grounds for portraits.

The garden area was especially beautiful.

In one of our favorite portraits from their gallery, Samantha and Andrew are standing together in the garden with the Tennessee landscape stretching behind them. The overcast sky created soft, even light, while the greenery surrounding them gave the photograph a timeless feeling.

This is also where you can really see the advantage of having a photographer who knows how to use a venue rather than simply photographing the couple in the most obvious location.

We can use the garden for a more editorial photograph, the trees for something romantic and intimate, the architectural walls for something more dramatic, and the indoor spaces when we want a cleaner, brighter look.

Portraits Among Trees

The wooded areas surrounding The Woodlands gave us another completely different look.

Samantha and Andrew's portraits outside feel much more connected to the natural Tennessee landscape. The trees create depth behind them, while the couple remains the clear focus of the photograph.

One of the things we love most about wedding portraits like these is that they don't need a complicated pose.

A little movement, a quiet moment together, a kiss, or simply walking hand-in-hand can create photographs that feel natural rather than overly staged.

That's a big part of our approach at White Fox Wedding Photography. We want couples to have beautiful portraits, but we also want those portraits to feel like them instead of being overly posed and staged.

Inside The Woodlands Reception Space

When the day transitioned into the reception, the bright daytime space became warmer and more dramatic as the evening progressed. The chandeliers, wood details, draping, arched architecture, and uplighting created a beautiful backdrop for the reception.

Samantha and Andrew's reception was full of energy.

There were emotional dances, lots of movement on the dance floor, laughter, and plenty of candid interactions between their friends and family.

Those are the photographs that make a wedding gallery feel complete.

It's easy to focus on the bride and groom all day, but weddings are also about the people surrounding them. Samantha and Andrew's gallery includes so many photographs of parents, friends, family members, and guests celebrating alongside them.

A Sweet Cake Cutting

The cake cutting was another beautiful part of the reception.

Their cake display incorporated the same white floral and greenery aesthetic seen throughout the rest of the wedding. The white cakes, flowers, greenery, and gold accents worked beautifully against the fireplace and large mirror behind them.

And, of course, there was a little cake smashing.

The photographs capture that split second of surprise and laughter that makes cake cutting worth documenting beyond simply taking a photograph of the couple holding a knife.

These are the moments that remind us why we photograph weddings as stories instead of just a collection of formal portraits.

Family, Friends, and the Moments Between

One of the things we loved most about Samantha and Andrew's wedding was how much personality came through during the reception.

There were sweet parent dances, guests getting out on the dance floor, kids running around, friends celebrating, and a lot of completely unscripted moments.

One of our favorite photographs shows Samantha dancing with her father. Another captures guests dancing together around the couple.

And then there are the photographs that are simply funny.

One guest took the dance floor very seriously, dropping down into an impressive dance move while everyone around him watched and laughed. Those photographs aren't necessarily what couples think to ask for when they build their shot list, but they are exactly the kinds of images that make a wedding gallery fun to look through years later.

The Dance Floor at The Woodlands

As the night went on, the reception became more energetic.

Colored uplighting filled the room while guests danced together around Samantha and Andrew. The large open floor at The Woodlands made it easy for everyone to spread out and celebrate.

From a photography standpoint, this is where we can really start looking for movement.

Instead of asking everyone to stop and smile, we can photograph people laughing, dancing, spinning, hugging, and interacting naturally.

The result is a gallery that feels alive.

And Samantha and Andrew's reception definitely had that feeling.

The Last Dance

Even with a packed reception, we always try to find opportunities for the couple to have a few quieter moments together.

Samantha and Andrew shared a private dance later in the evening, surrounded by the warm reception lighting.

The combination of the white dress, dark suit, warm wood floors, soft colored lights, and the architecture of the room created a completely different aesthetic from their daytime portraits.

This is another reason we love The Woodlands for photography.

The venue can look bright and airy in the morning, lush and green in the afternoon, warm and romantic at dinner, and energetic and colorful once the dance floor gets going.

A Sparkler Exit at Howe Farms

Samantha and Andrew ended the night with a sparkler exit underneath the string lights. Guests lined both sides of the walkway holding sparklers as Samantha and Andrew made their way through the crowd. The lights overhead, the evening sky, and the glow of the sparklers created an incredible final scene.

But instead of simply walking through the exit, Samantha and Andrew stopped for one last kiss.

That photograph is one of those images that feels like a perfect ending to the entire gallery.

After spending the day photographing their getting-ready moments, details, portraits, family, reception, dancing, and everything in between, we got to finish the story with the two of them surrounded by everyone they love.

That's exactly how we want a wedding gallery to feel — like a story from beginning to end.

Why We Love Photographing Weddings at Howe Farms

As photographers, we love venues where the location gives us room to be creative. Howe Farms does that exceptionally well.

The property combines beautiful architecture with Tennessee scenery, which means couples aren't limited to one particular look for all of their photos. You can have classic bridal portraits indoors, romantic garden portraits, dramatic architectural photographs, wooded outdoor portraits, and a completely different reception aesthetic later that night.

The Woodlands in particular has an incredible amount of visual variety.

The bright bridal suite is perfect for getting-ready photographs. The gardens provide a structured outdoor setting. The wooded areas give couples that quintessential Tennessee scenery. The white stucco walls and iron gates create a European-inspired backdrop. And the reception space provides warm, elegant photographs once the sun goes down.

For a wedding photographer, that's a lot of possibilities.

For a couple, it means you can have a wedding gallery that doesn't look like every photograph was taken in the exact same place.
